As you read in the Weekly Volcano, the Squeak and Squawk Music Festival kicked off Thursday. Bands from all over the Northwest and beyond will be stopping in Tacoma to unleash their magic Sept. 12-16. Below is the schedule for Saturday, Sept. 14.
All Ages, 6-9 p.m.
Library at Sanford and Son
743 Broadway, Tacoma
>>> Tender Forever
Originally hailing from France, Portland's Tender Forever is the work of Melanie Valera, an expert at combining the heart of singer-songwriting journaling with infectious electro-pop.
>>> La Luz
We're catching this band right before they leave on tour with of Montreal, and we couldn't be happier: their brand of cinematic surf-rock and girl-group dynamics is dramatic and perfectly summery.
>>> Margy Pepper
This band has built a name for themselves down in Olympia, where they've been running the house venue, Grandma's House, for quite some time, but it's their raucous and shambolically enthusiastic garage rock that drew us to them.
21+, Dance Night, 9:30 p.m.
The New Frontier Lounge
301 E. 25th St., Tacoma
>>> I Will Keep Your Ghost
Dance-rock doesn't get much more exciting than I Will Keep Your Ghost, with their rigorous musical workouts and thrilling guitar work.
>>> Man Plus
Recently reunited after a hiatus, Man Plus are experts at accessing the sort of new romantic '80s feel and updating it with dance-y post-punk, led by Jared Mill's sonorous vocals.
>>> Future Bass
This assembly of DJs - including Mr. Melanin, DJ Broam, Delicious Brown, Ninjamonik, and Bobby Galaxy - has been gaining a following with their monthly residence at The New Frontier Lounge, and wide range of musical influences.
